I’m 17 and I was introduced to poker at the age of 15. During that summer I had lost $80 playing with my friends. I found it really fun and started to get into. I started watching poker on TV all the time and have started to get better. When I was 16 I decided that there wasn’t anything in this world that I would like to do more than play poker professionally. Today I go to school wearing poker shirts(please don’t laugh lol) and when people ask me why I wear them everyday I say, I love poker, I’m gonna go pro. Some say I’m dumb others believe in me but I know that I will be a pro no matter what anyone says. I plan to watch all the episodes of Poker After Dark (IMO best to learn from) and I will read poker books as well as practice online. I’m gonna play every bit of free time I get a chance and hopefully by 21 I will be ready to play at a casino.

Can someone give me tips on getting started at casinos. How do comp points work. If I play at $1/$2 for around 12 hours a day will I have enough comp points to pay for the hotel? If you have any advice please tell me. Thanks!

You are thinking about being a poker pro, and your question is about comp points at a casino?

You are only going to practice on-line? Most pros these days make their living playing on-line.

Get some money on an online site and get started. And start small, smaller than $1/$2.

    Good luck!

Casino Comps are freebies the casinos give out for players. These comps are earned through a players card, on the betting you do for the slot machines and for the table action you give the casinos when you play. Some casinos do not have comps for poker tournaments, but they usually do for the ring games.

Playing at $1/2 for 12 hours a day will not get you a room in most cases, unless you want one night for several days of play.

To find out how the comp plans work, call the casino you are thinking of going to . Some poker rooms do allow 18 or 19 year old players, it depends on where you live. Contact a casino host before you go, and ask them exactly how the comp play works, they will be glad to tell you.

Keep in mind that the poker you see on TV bears little resemblance to actual poker games, especially if you compare it to the action you will see at $1/2 tables. The programs are edited for pace, action, drama and excitement, and they leave out much of the play, which is generally quite boring, sitting and waiting for optimal hands.

The best way to learn poker is practice, practice, practice! Then practice some more! You can get started online, after you turn 18, at many poker sites. Be sure to do some research on which ones are the best for you, take your time and check them out before you play.

    Good luck, and keep practicing!
